| A long time ago,
lived Prince Phanta and Princess Kym. Prince Phanta was from the city of Diamonda and Princess Kym was from Emeralda . As children, they were able to play together quite a bit, as their families were best of friends. However, the prince and princess, being like most children, liked to get into trouble, which was not royal like. Their families felt that young princes and princesses should play proper, which basically meant sitting in a chair coloring or reading books all day. Phanta and Kym had other ideas of what fun should be though. They often told each other stories of sailing away someday and starting their own kingdom. Phanta and Kym continued to see each other as kids, then early teenagers, then as young adults. During this time, they fell in love. Unfortunately, as the years went on, their families grew apart. Their parents eventually became bitter rivals of each other and forbid the two young lovers from seeing each other. Of course, being in love, they would find time now and then to see each other. As before, they continued to tell each other stories of running away and starting their own kingdom. A few months later, war broke out between their families. It was a bitter war and it made Phanta and Kym very sad. It also made it more difficult for them to see each other. Then one night, Kym was resting in her room in her castle when a stone broke through her window. Attached to it was a note on a string. It read "My dearest Kym, I must see you now in the royal gardens. Please hurry. Your truest love, Phanta". She threw on her royal robe, snuck past the guards, and headed to the Royal Gardens, where she found Phanta waiting for her. Phanta had a plan. He knew of a traveling ship that came to their local port every month. That ship would head out for a month long voyage to several ports around the Sea of Io and back to the nearby port of Ruby. The ship was due in Ruby the next day. Phanta told Kym of a small island along the travels of the ship, The Argo. He had heard about it from his father who had considered claiming it in his families name, but then decided it was too far away. Phanta knew it had some resources, but not enough for anyone to bother inhabiting it. Kym loved the idea of getting away with Phanta and agreed to meet him at the docks the next day. The following morning, the two met at the docks with nothing but a sack of food and a few tokens. They dressed as peasants and bought their tickets for The Argo. Almost two weeks into the trip, the weather started to get very rough one night. The Argo was a strong ship, but not strong enough for the nasty weather. Phanta grabbed Kym and headed for a lifeboat. A huge wave came crashing over the side of The Argo and capsized it. Phanta and Kym were able get into the lifeboat as The Argo went down. They searched for a moment for survivors, but saw none. Then Phanta started rowing and rowing and rowing. The waves started to subside shortly thereafter. With the waves calming down, Phanta and Kym fell asleep. Phanta woke up, then woke Kym up. They were on an island. From the descriptions that Phanta remembered, it appeared to be the island his dad had talked about. Phanta and Kym had made it! They got out of the lifeboat and looked around the island. It wasn't a very big island, but it had plenty of fruit and trees for shelter. For them, it was perfect. They named the island after Kym and called it Kymer. A few years later they met jungle natives who helped them set up a few small buildings and named the town Phantasus. Although they didn't have subjects to rule over, it was their new Kingdom. Nobody knows exactly how long ago they lived, but the Mages believe it to be a couple hundred years or so. Over the years, others have found themselves
shipwrecked on the island of Kymer. We have continued |
